Alzheimer’s: Disease is a
degenerative neurological illness characterized by memory
loss and declining thinking skills. It is the most common
example of a family of brain and memory disorders called
dementia.
Blood Pressure: When the heart pumps blood into
the arteries, the blood flows with a force pushing against
the walls of the arteries. Blood pressure is the product of
the flow of blood times the resistance in the blood vessels.
High blood pressure is also called hypertension. |

Bone loss: Occurs when there is
decreased calcification or reduced density of the bones. The
result is weak bones that are at increased risk of fracture.
Bone loss can occur as part of the normal aging process or
as a complication of cancer or cancer treatment.
Cholesterol: Is a lipid (fat).
It is manufactured by the liver from the fatty foods that we
eat, and plays a vital part in allowing the body to function
normally. Cholesterol is present in the membrane (outer
layer) of every cell in the body. |

|
Cancer: The organs and tissues of the
body are made up of tiny building blocks called cells.
Cancer is a disease of these cells.
Cells in different parts of the body may look and work
differently but most reproduce themselves in the same way.
Cells are constantly becoming old and dying, and new cells
are produced to replace them. Normally, cells divide in an
orderly and controlled manner. If for some reason the
process gets out of control, the cells carry on dividing,
developing into a lump which is called a tumor.
Diabetes: Is a disorder of
metabolism, the way our bodies use digested food for growth
and energy. Most of the food we eat is broken down into
glucose, the form of sugar in the blood. Glucose is the main
source of fuel for the body. |
